Hi, I’m Lauren Calenborne, the owner of Runstrong.over.50

If we’ve not met yet, let me introduce myself and tell you a little more about me, what I do, and why Runstrong.over.50 is unique.

I live on the East Coast of South Africa in Durban, with my husband and we have 3 boys that are away at university.  I started running 34 years ago when I was at school, and have never looked back.  I started with a few 10 km and 21 km races and boy were they hard, but I loved them.  I loved the challenge of running, and then setting tough goals.  And soon I wanted to test out a marathon, and then the Two Oceans Ultra. Being a student in Pietermaritzburg, of course meant the Comrades Marathon became a focus.

The years went by and I'm so grateful for all that running gave me.  In my late 30s I got pretty serious about chasing times and managed with the help of my coach, JP Chelin, to get my marathon time down to 3hr10 a few times.  The Comrades marathon became my obsession.  I chased that Silver medal intensely for 4 years.  I managed a time of 7hr31 missing the goal by 1 minute and sadly never took home that damn silver medal.

Life continued and my children got older, but I always loved the benefits that came with running and the identity of being a runner.  I have run for enjoyment, and for the positive energy that always arrives after completing a run. I run for the social aspect of it, and love the hours spent chatting on the road solving all life's problems.  I run for the focus and then achievement of setting a goal. And I run because the routes and races mean that you see some incredible places.

But over time, age creeps up, and your running goals have to change.  Your speed and strength change.  It can be frustrating, but it is also a  mindset that you need to adjust.  You can still chase times, but age group times, and you can still keep fit and strong, and finding new adventures to run.  You have to approach your running differently and maintain a consistency in running, strength work, and mobility work.  Nutrition also becomes more important. I am determined to keep running for as long as can

That's where Runstrong.over.50 comes into it.

What I do

I help people from all over the world go after their running goals, be it to complete their first race, or their fastest race, or build back from injury, or just find joy in running.

My passion is to help you achieve what you set out to, and make sure you believe in what you are capable of.

I help you become a Strong Runner

All runners need strength training, especially over 50 year old runners.  Building strength is a gamechanger for staying injury free, performing your best, maximizing your own ability on the road.  I’ve created a number of progressive strength training options specifically for runners which is delivered through the app.  The focus of them is to build muscular strength and slow down the inevitable process of ageing. They are to be used alongside a running plan.

You just need the right plan. I’d love to help you get there.
